Rev. Greg Rehberg’s career is work in progress. Flowing through the Music world, in and around the Professional Audio and Video electronics industry for three decades.
In the early 70s, Greg attended the University of Wisconsin majoring in Physics and Chemistry. However the Pro Audio and Music activity in Northern California drew him from his home state to the San Francisco Bay Area. Greg accepted a position with Paul Seaman Company, a mfgr’s rep for lines like; Tascam, Audio Technica, Dennon and Kenwood. He continued his education at Diablo Valley College studying Electronics. He worked in Pro Audio with The Keystone Clubs in Berkeley, San Francisco and Palo Alto.
Bezerkeley Records chose Greg to be an Audio Mix Engineer for their leading artists including; Greg Khin, The Rubinoos, and Earthquake. This led him to the position as Sound Designer for the Bay Area Music Awards with the Dick Bright Orchestra. He finished out the 70s as an Audio Engineer for Bill Graham Presents and FM Productions. At FM, Greg built one of the first “Flying, Line Array” arena sound systems in 1977. This system toured nationally with Heart for 2 years with Greg as Monitor Engineer.
After spending several years “Touring” as a Live Mix Engineer for groups like Heart, Jefferson Starship, Jesse Colin Young, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Ashford & Simpson, Patty LaBelle..., in 1983 Greg settled back home in Berkeley. Through the mid 80s, he worked as an independent contractor and engineer on a variety of projects.
At Tewksbury Sound Recorders in Richmond, CA, owned by Dan Alexander, Greg participated in Control Room installations with Patch Bay design and fabrication. He also did Repair and Refurbishing of Vintage Audio equipment and Microphones. This included design and remanufacturing of power supplies and replacement parts that were no longer available.
When Tewksbury relocated to the Wally Hider facility in San Francisco, Greg went along to work on five different studio installations at the new Hyde Street Studios. Installing a variety of Vintage Pro Audio equipment and Consoles including two Neve Consoles, a Trident B Range and a second Helos.
Greg worked with Zeta Music Systems in Berkeley, building instrument synthesizer equipment, custom fabrication and testing of electronic assemblies for products in development. In the mid 80s, Greg created and managed a Pro Video Production company. Also in Silicon Valley with Intelligent Technologies, as a C language programmer and Manager of Software Quality Assurance.
After a year in Hawaii working on a pilot program with Sony, Greg moved to Sonoma County in 1987. While continuing to work as an independent contractor, he also worked as an Audio Engineer for Golden State Sound and its parent company PCD (Professional Communications Design). During this time he also served as Sr. Audio Consultant to the Raven Theater for their Motion Picture Theater and Live Performance Events.
With the start of the ‘90s, Greg returned to Berkeley to enter a seminary program at the Church of Divine Man. He graduated as Minister in 1993. During this time he worked with Third Ear Sound doing booking, Pro Audio installations and more Live Audio. Also with David Carroll Electronics and Pro Media/UltraSound as a wiring technician and field supervisor/installer.
1993 saw Greg Rehberg and Gary Creller design and install the Raven Film Center in Healdsburg, CA (the roots of TAG).
In 1994 Greg moved back to Santa Rosa to accept the position of Audio & Technical Director at the Mystic Theater. He held this position till 2001.
Greg continued with independent projects during this period. Uppa Level Productions, an Amek Einstein console with a major Patchbay rack; Bananas at Large, Sales and Installations; Apogee Sound as Tech Support Manager; Pullet Studios; The Pulsators… And more time on the road Touring with Artists like; Pat Benatar, Tom Waits and Wayne Shorter.
In 2001, PCD again called on Greg’s experience to fill the position of Project Manager and Lead Installer. By 2002 he advanced to Sr. Systems Engineer.
In 2003, Greg left PCD and joined with Gary Creller to Create the Transparent Audio Group.
Rev. Greg is continually looking for new challenges to expanding the boundary of quality Pro Audio / Video System Installations.
